TAHU BAKSO AS A SPECIAL FOOD FROM UNGARAN

Ungaran is Regency City of Semarang, and located in the South of Semarang City. “Wikipedia” write Ungaran as “City of Thousand Restaurants” because there are many restaurants along the main road to Solo and Jogjakarta. Among the various kind of special food from Ungaran, tahu bakso is the popular one, or the other people may call it tahu baxo. This food is made from tofu that filled with meatballs inside. After that, we can fry it, covered with egg that has been whisk before.

If we discuss about tahu bakso, we can’t dismiss Mrs. Pudji as the person who introduced this food which is combine two main substance, they are tahu and bakso. In 1995, she got an idea to make kind of food that is made from tofu and meatball. After that, she started to make it using her improvised equipments and by financial capital less than Rp 50.000. Mrs. Pudji started producing and sold it with name “Tahu Bakso”. In 1996, after 9 months producing, “TAHUBAXO Kepodang” (because produced in Kepodang Avenue) became trademark of this food. Until now, this business is just a home industry. She produced tahu bakso in her home and sold it around Bandarjo Market using cart. In 1999, through the Department of Cooperatives Semarang Regency, she submitted an application and attached the needed requirement to become Company/Industry. By her submission, she got the loan capital from PT ASABRI amount Rp 5.000.000 which is used for increasing the financial capital and completing production equipment and marketing.  In 2001, “TAHUBAXO Kepodang” changed to “TAHUBAXO Ibu Pudji” as trademark until now. Nowadays, she has outlets to easier customers for reaching out the product especially for them who come from out of town.

Tahu bakso is a tasty food. I swear everybody would like this food, no matter where they come from. In fact, there are much people search tahu bakso when they are visiting or just passing through Ungaran.
